Teaching for Positive Behaviour Change 2
This module focuses on identifying appropriate and functionally-related replacement behaviour to teach students engaging in challenging behaviour.
Learn how to identify and select appropriate skills based on each student’s behavioural profile – such as assessing skill and performance deficits. The effective use of reinforcement is also a key focus in this module. Teachers will acquire skills and strategies to harness students’ motivation to learn, as well as use new skills and behaviour.
Included in the registration is access to a Learning and Behaviour Profile, Reinforcer List and additional resources to enhance motivation in students.
While there are no strict prerequisite requirements for the modules in this course, we recommend following the suggested study pathways:
Positive teaching, a model of positive reinforcement based on the principles of applied behaviour analysis, utilises high rates of teacher praise and dramatically decreases teacher reprimands. By focusing on appropriate behaviour and ignoring inappropriate behaviour, maximum learning takes place. Classrooms that employ the principles of Positive Teaching have much higher rates of on-task behaviour.
These modules would benefit classroom teachers, school counsellors, psychologists and education professionals and leaders.
Yes, all Positive Teaching and Learning modules are self-paced eLearning modules. You can study at your own pace and start whenever is convenient.
The Positive Teaching for Effective Classroom Management module is Teacher Quality Institute ACT accredited (10 hrs).
There are no prerequisites for Positive Teaching and Learning modules. However, we do suggest following the recommended course structure, and note that the Foundations of Behaviour and Function-based Thinking is an excellent foundation for both the Teaching for Positive Behaviour Change, and Assessment and Measurement of Behaviour pathways.
