Initial teacher education – the answer to building Australia’s future workforce

In EducationHQ this week, Dean of The Academy for the Science of Instruction, Dr Mark Carter, writes: ‘Time-wasting fads and fallacies have no place in an education system charged with building our future workforce,’ published on 6 June 2025.

Dr Carter argues that initial teacher education needs an overhaul to incorporate evidence-based practices in order to shift the outlook of Australia’s education system.

“Fixing initial teacher education presents an opportunity to dramatically shift the dial when it comes to lifting Australia’s education outcomes and delivering the knowledgeable and skilled workforce this nation needs.”
