Tarneit Rise Primary School is a rapidly growing co-educational school in Tarneit, Victoria. With over 1600 students, the school leadership team is seeking to create a stable learning environment and ensure consistency in instruction across classrooms.
Several school leaders enrolled in The Academy for the Science of Instruction’s workshop, ‘Leading School Transformation’ in 2024, including Principal, Nadia Bettio and Assistant Principal, Alana Stathoulis.
Shifting a school’s approach to literacy education and introducing a new program requires upskilling and change management. The Academy’s courses aim to strengthen school leaders’ and teachers’ foundational understanding of evidence-based practices, and the ‘Leading School Transformation’ workshop provides both theoretical insights and the opportunity to design a school improvement action plan.
The course has had a significant impact on how change is being implemented by leadership and received by the school community, including the introduction of InitiaLit.
Success is already being reflected in student outcomes. The proportion of Foundation students considered at-risk has halved in the span of 6 months.
Moreover, early indicators show the leadership team that staff confidence and trust is increasing.
“We’ve recently received early staff feedback that indicates a significant 20% increase in our staff’s trust in the leadership team in a short amount of time,” says Nadia.
“We know we’ve been doing well because we’re seeing the results and the benefits. Going forward, we will continue learning, reading, listening and improving.”
